One of the most extraordinary and unselfish achievements of our times was the great odyssey of evacuating and saving Spanish artistic patrimony during the Civil War (1936-1939).
Everyone took part in this amazing deed: Workers, intellectuals, soldiers and civilians, spaniards and foreigners... They gave their all to try to save the works of art of the Prado Museum, The Royal Palace, The Escorial… Thousands of important works of art that would have disappeared forever without their effort.
Directed by Alfonso Arteseros, this DVD documentary (plus a 22 pages colour booklet) retraces the journey the priceless works of art made all the way to Geneva and back dodging Franco bombing runs.
Works of art which were hurriedly loaded on 71 trucks by the Republican Forces, amidst the chaos of popular exodus and under the constant bombing of Franco´s Air Force and that of his cronies, the Condor Legion and The Italian Legionary Aviation Force. Crowded on those trucks, travelled paintings by Velázquez, Goya, El Greco and many more artists from the Prado Museum, as well as other important works of art from the Royal Academy of San Fernando, El Escorial, The Royal Palace, The Palace Of Liria and many others spanish churches and museums.
Includes interviews with Rafael Alberti, Rosa Chacel, General Lister, Serrano Suñer and many other personalities involved in this amazing adventure and music by flamenco´s legend Camaron de la Isla.
